I'm working away on my final pre-NECON blog post, but in the meantime, I have a plug for an upcoming virtual event of interest to horror fans: The Colorado chapter of Horror Writers of America will be discussing Steve Rasnic Tem's novel Deadfall Hotel at 7:30pm (Mountain Time) on July 26.

Back For Another Crack At The Rack: The Rack II: More Stories Inspired by Vintage Horror Paperbacks (ed. Tom Deady)

Oh, hell yeah. Look, sometimes sequels are better even though the original was great. Mad Max and The Terminator ? Both great pieces of genre entertainment. The first sequel to each? Lightning in a bottle. And that's the situation we have here. Last week , I set out my 'floor and ceiling' framework of story collection criticism: The floor is the minimum general quality of each piece in the collection, and the ceiling is the maximum quality of the best pieces in that collection. The best is when you have a high floor and a high ceiling. And, guys, we have one here.  I love this book. I'm really excited to discuss it.
